Caspar Egas (MSc)
Caspar joined AMS Institute to boost both the data visualization ambitions of the institute and its understanding of the data-related problems facing the municipality of Amsterdam. With this scope, he divides his time between a joint project at the Datalab of the municipality and the Data Visualization team at AMS institute.
At the municipality’s Datalab, Caspar works in a diverse team of developers, analysts and data scientists who pursue to better measure the flows of people traveling through the city. The objective goal is to understand overcrowdedness. As a member of the Data Visualization team at AMS Institute, Caspar also helps researchers to translate their results into engaging data stories, as in the example of research into food-proof cities. In addition, they explore new technologies to visualize information such as virtual- and augmented reality.
Caspar co-started a data consultancy agency helping non-governmental organizations make sense of their data and present their results dynamically after he had refined his skills as a data storyteller for the data visualization platform Silk (acquired by Palantir in 2016).
“As a longtime Amsterdammer I am excited to find smart uses of data and technologies that improve my city.”
