Juanita is Urban Living Lab Developer at the AMS institute. In this role, she coordinates the Marineterrein Living Lab (MALL), the EU ATELIER project, and other Living Lab activities. She is also involved in the Open Knowledge Coalition supporting the establishment of tangible collaborations between the member organizations: Codam Coding College, Amsterdam University of the Arts, and AMS Institute.
In MALL she guides the experimenters in the onboarding, scoping, implementation and validation process of their solutions to be ready for upscaling and/or replication at urban scale. In the EU ATELIER project, she leads AMS Institutes contribution in the monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Innovation Ateliers in Amsterdam and Bilbao and in supporting the stakeholder engagement activities to accelerate the energy transition in cities.
As a domain expert, she also develops and validates Living Labs (LL) tools. She contributes to the MADE LL course by supporting students in translating LL methods and tools into practice.
She is passionate about cities, architecture, sustainability and inclusion, and she is interested in investigating how technology and urban innovation can address complex urban challenges.
Her background combines her domain knowledge in urban planning and architecture with working experience in smart cities, mobility and technology (data, map-based visualizations and simulations, sensors, models, applications). In the projects she translates the needs and challenges of internal and external stakeholders into project scope, and requirements. During project execution, she guides the co-creation and testing activities by providing domain-specific input and validating the output.
She was previously involved in the H2020 URBANAGE and the H2020 INDIMO, CityFlows and the TOKEN projects as an Urban Design Researcher at imec.
Until 2018 she was a CityScience Advisor for the City Science Group, at the MIT Media Lab, in the context of the "Andorra Living Lab" initiative, coordinating projects in urban simulation, cultural heritage, and education.
While not working, you can find her traveling, sketching, or scuba diving.
