As a research institute with sustainability at its core, the AMS Institute finds it important to also look at its own impacts. In this context, Liesbeth has been hired to conduct the research for and write AMS Institute’s first sustainability report. By quantifying and visualizing AMS’s impact, she helps create a baseline on which AMS can base its future sustainability goals.

Liesbeth’s work is diverse, ranging from diving deep into the European Sustainability and Reporting Standards, organizing internal stakeholder input sessions, working with multiple AMS, TUD, and WUR colleagues to collect data, calculating CO2 footprints and other impacts, and communicating results both in visual and written form.

Simultaneously, Liesbeth is finalizing the MSc MADE, conducting thesis research on the circular food practices of low-income individuals in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Before going back to university to further her education, Liesbeth worked as a sustainability consultant for 5 years, which provided her with valuable experience for her current role at AMS.

Amsterdam has always had a special place in Liesbeth’s heart, having grown up in a town close by. So, Liesbeth is especially excited that she can now use her skills and passion for sustainability directly for an institute so closely linked to a city that has always felt like home.

“Sustainability is at the core of what I do: I try to make the world a little better through my work. I strongly believe that many small steps can create big results”
