As a program developer for the Smart Urban Mobility Team, Tom initiates and develops innovative and applied research in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Together with researchers from the academic world, public and private partners, he works on finding solutions for the challenges in Urban Mobility.
Tom has been involved in and coordinated several Smart Urban Mobility projects, one of which is pursuing the station of the future as a next research project. Recent activities range from the STAD project on the impact of autonomous vehicles in public space and mobility to projects on the behavior of pedestrians and cyclists in busy areas.
Tom is also the organizer of the Ovale Tafel Mobiliteit Amsterdam where Amsterdam’s mobility research institutes and city, Vervoerregio and Amecboard work on the mobility challenges in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
In his eyes, the AMS Institute provides the unique opportunity of working towards a more livable and accessible city through collaboration with people from different backgrounds.
“I cannot wait for mobility to be zero-emission.”
