Karin Peters is an assistant professor at the Cultural Geography Group of Wageningen University and Research. She holds a PhD on the meaning of public spaces for issues of social integration. Her research focuses on leisure, public space, mobility, diversity and issues of inclusion and exclusion in the Netherlands and at the European level. Recently she also focusses on sustainable mobility with the ambition to create a global bicycle network. With this network of initiatives and partners she aims to connect relevant stakeholders to enhance sustainable mobility in urban environments.
In the MADE program she is involved as the coordinator of Metropolitan Solutions and she is secretary of the Examining Board. Furthermore, she leads a Science Shop project called Economic Homeless People commissioned by De Regenboog Groep in Amsterdam. This project was also one of the MADE Living Labs in 2020. This project connects her main interest and drive which is contributing to creating an inclusive society. This social sustainability is one of the main challenges of today’s cities, including the city of Amsterdam.
Her educational involvement is characterized by a focus on individual learning trajectories, coaching and contributing to new forms of education like challenge-based learning.
