His research has a strong focus on Biometeorology. It is motivated by the interaction of weather and climate with the biosphere. Research topics include:

  • Human thermal stress
  • Air pollution
  • Dew and leaf wetness
  • Urban climate

He has developed a special tricycle equipped with meteorological sensors to access human thermal stress levels.

At AMS Institute, Bert Heusinkveld is working together with Gert-Jan Steeneveld on the AAMS (Amsterdam Atmospheric Super Site) project where he developed a flux measurement station above Munt Square. The station monitors CO2, heat and moisture transport between the urban surface and the atmospheric boundary layer above. He was also involved in the Green Junkie project (to study vegetation and air pollution interaction).
