Marco is leads the DSET -Internet of Things group. His research interests are in the areas of the Internet of Things, Mobile Computing, and Visible Light Communication. Marco and his team are developing platforms to monitor future smart cities in a sustainable and zero-energy manner. Marco is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at TU Delft.
At AMS, Marco focuses on two main projects: 1) on a monitoring platform with multiple sensors and wireless interfaces to sense smart cities in real time and relying solely on solar power and 2) on radically new means for wireless communication that do not rely on radio waves, only on sunlight. These technologies could lead to a new generation of platforms that would leave no ecological footprint.
Marco regularly gives lectures at universities around the world. He is also a member of several Technical Program Committees at flagship venues in his research areas.
His work is motivated by the affordances that the digital era has brought with it as it benefits humanity yet also takes a toll on the earth due to high energy consumption. Marco wants to develop platforms and algorithms that benefit society without such high energy cost. For that, Amsterdam offers highly competent people and is a great place to innovate.
