Driven by a desire to help designers contribute to societal transitions, Marina Bos-de Vos is passionate about understanding joint value creation in design projects that address societal problems in urban contexts, such as climate change, circularity, inequality, and poverty. Participants of such transdisciplinary projects need to generate future value for a diverse set of stakeholders including the natural and urban environment, government institutions, businesses, and citizens, while dealing with high degrees of ambiguity and uncertainty. In her work, Marina focuses on identifying successful practices of navigating value tensions in projects and finding synergies between possibly competing values. She does this through rigorous investigations of ongoing projects and co-developing design methods and tools with project participants to enhance project results and implementation. With this, she contributes to a fruitful interplay of the disciplines of project management and design. Marina is part of the Future Proof Living Environment Infrastructure consortium (growfund) and the AMS Living Lab team.
Marina worked several years in practice as an architect before she earned her PhD cum laude on the topic of value creation and capture in architectural projects in 2018. Marina currently works as Assistant Professor of Strategic Design for Ecosystem Innovation at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, TU Delft. Since 2023, she is also part of the management team of the Delft Design for Values Institute. Her work is published in well-known journals in project management, as well as other academic fields, developed into practitioner-oriented videos and tools, and used in multiple university courses and by organizations in industry.
“At AMS Institute I will work on co-developing design methods for joint value creation with members of urban living labs to support integration of innovations in society and acceleration of societal transitions”
