Mateo Pearson is a visiting student from The University of Utrecht studying Bio-Inspired-Innovation. After having studied Biology at the University of Hamburg and having gained experience in the fields of molecular biology and biomedicine he decided to search for a way in which biology knowledge can be applied more effectively, bridging the gap between academia and practice. Therefore, his master thesis was dedicated towards exploring arthropod biodiversity on green walls in the urban context and at the AMS institute his research revolves around discovering new biobased adhesives in the context of 3D printing with waste stream materials. He has a passion for upcycling used materials and in this research he focuses on the development of new printing materials, prototyping and finding suitable applications. Next to this he is assisting in teaching a biobased digital fabrication course, in which students from AHK, MADE and Codam have to design and fabricate 3D printed habitat shelters for a variety of living species.
