At AMS Institute, Mattia is working within the Senseable City group on his master's thesis focused on energy modeling, specifically exploring the deployment of "nuclear batteries" in urban environments. Our research targets the Port of Amsterdam as a potential site, particularly for industries that are challenging to decarbonize. The project aims to provide both heat and power, contributing to decarbonization efforts while alleviating network congestion. By evaluating the techno-economic feasibility of this alternative energy solution, we seek to offer a sustainable approach that addresses critical environmental and infrastructure challenges in urban settings.

“Exploring nuclear batteries for urban energy solutions could redefine how we tackle industrial decarbonization and network congestion.”
