The production, purchase and use of ICT equipment happens mostly in a well known linear model. What if we could let the end user manage their hardware in a circular way? During Amsterdam Smart City's Demoday this Tuesday July 6th Circular will meet Digital.
What are your ideas on how to measure and manage the circularity of ICT? For whom is this important, what data is needed and how do we get there? How to take circularity and energy into account when it comes to data storage? Join us this interactive afternoon and share your thoughts!
Please note: This event is in Dutch.
LEAP Circular | Pitch with Amsterdam Economic Board
We are all generating, sending and storing more and more data. But digitization - the virtual world - is also physical. Think of the devices in your pocket. We buy 43 million new devices every year and throw away 64 kilotonnes worth of hardware. It is not surprising that the environmental impact of digitization is increasing, partly due to the extraction of critical materials that quickly become exhausted.
In LEAP (Lower Energy Acceleration Program) Circular, an initiative of Amsterdam Economic Board, we build a future-proof ICT infrastructure in which energy and circularity are included in decision-making about the purchase and use of ICT hardware. However, we cannot do this alone, and we need your help!
“We create, send and store more and more data. However, digitization - the virtual world - is also physical. Think of the thousands of data servers - now amounting to 160+ football fields full, in the Netherlands. How can we take circularity and energy into account when it comes to data storage?”

Circular ICT | Work session with the City of Amsterdam and Amsterdam Economic Board
The production, purchase and use of ICT equipment often still takes place according to the well-known linear model. One way to accelerate the transition to circular ICT is to enable end users to manage their hardware in a circular way.
How can we measure and manage the circularity of ICT? For whom is this important, what data is needed and how do we get there? We are happy to work with you with the aim of drawing up a sketch of an ideal monitor for sustainable ICT.
Demodays by Amsterdam Smart City
Demodays are part of Amsterdam Smart City's (ASC) innovation process and intended to boost the progress of the various innovation projects. Always in a variety of ways and in a very positive and open vibe. Invitations are sent but we're always open to adding a few new names to the list.
ASC hosts these days every 8-10 weeks. During Demodays, community members pitch projects & ask for input, and in small groups we work on concrete questions that our partners put on the table. Here you can download the full program for next Tuesday. See you next week, Tuesday July 6th!
