On November 16th, MSc MADE education team and study association MADE IT will host an Educational Symposium. The MADE master program is built on the idea that its education should take place in close interaction with the world (or rather, city). We think something quite special has emerged over the past five years. We would like to share this with you, but even more so, learn from like-minded educational initiatives.
During this symposium we want to invite you to join us in a conversation about education configurations that try to move beyond the boundaries of disciplines and the safe campus. During this day you will learn from others, get inspired and reflect on current educational practices. We thus invite you to allow yourself the time in your busy agendas to engage in a conversation about transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary education.
Program & Keynote Speaker
After a general introduction, the day will continue to uncover various aspects of transdisciplinary education. First, keynote speaker Iris van der Tuin (Dean of interdisciplinary education at Utrecht University) will cover what makes education transdisciplinary and why we need this form of education in her talk 'Teaching and Learning Attentiveness to Emergence: Conceptual Interdisciplinarity in Susanne K. Langer (1895-1985) and Disciplined Interdisciplinarity at Utrecht University'. Following this, the MSc MADE living lab approach to education is shown as an example of transdisciplinary learning. The plenary session then breaks up into three parallel sessions on different aspects of transdisciplinary learning, before regrouping and reflecting on our learnings. The central question in the plenary wrap-up is: “What is needed to enable us to keep providing the education that we think is important?”
Of course the day is ended with drinks and discussions with all of the interesting guests.
