Our cities are rapidly being equipped with sensors: for traffic, fine dust, noise. Combining all this data gives city administrators new opportunities for real-time-control. Does this really make the city smart?

In cities, the major challenges of the 21st century come together in all its fierceness: climate change, social integration, energy transitions, circularity of raw materials. How are urban planners considering this? And when can cities be called smart? This will be topic of discussion during Science Café on 13 Feb.

AMS Institute's Scientific Director Arjan van Timmeren was invited by NEMO Science Museum and will be keynote speaker on this event.
