His activities will focus on the topic of circular urban resources. His position will be further strengthened with an appointment as Special Associate Professor at the Environmental Technology group at Wageningen University & Research. In these new roles Arjen van Nieuwenhuijzen will actively connect and align industry, government and academia to help solve urgent challenges for the urban environment.

‘With the appointment of Arjen van Nieuwenhuijzen we aim to increase collaborations on the topic of circular urban resources and boost our academic institutions with applied research and design knowledge. In close cooperation with our University based Principal Investigators, Arjen will contribute to translating research and development of innovative concepts into applicable and functional solutions for the city of Amsterdam and cities worldwide. With his expertise in Resources Recovery and close ties to Wageningen University & Research, Delft University of Technology and the city of Amsterdam, it was only fitting to appoint Arjen as our first Industry based Principal Investigator.’ says Arjan van Timmeren, Scientific Director at AMS Institute.

“I’m very motivated to actively connect and align industry, government and academia. The collaborations so far are very promising. Like the ReCirc Singapore Program and the NWO project WaterNexus for instance, with joint forces we investigate, create, engineer and deliver future circular solutions for the Netherlands, in particular the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and South East Asia region focusing on water, waste and food systems. My ambition is to develop overall knowledge and expertise and create more impact with our resource recovery solutions for challenges in the urban environment.”
