Every Dutch citizen generates nearly 490 kilos of waste annually, but only 59% is properly separated and recycled! Droppie’s innovative system, complete with a mobile app and rewards, aims to change that.
The Dropper container is full of sensors, scanning and sorting equipment that together ensure that the waste is processed automatically. This way, everyone can hand in waste without help.
The system recognizes what is handed in and processes it correctly. The Droppie app indicates where which type of waste can be delivered. On average, the reward is around 15 cents per kilo. This reward is automatically tracked and printed out via the app.
We are proud to welcome the Dropper to our cohort of Living Labs, contributing alongside some of our other projects to address the city's waste challenges. We are thrilled that Droppie was boosted by our Startup Booster and is now one of the teams participating in our Amsterdam Circular program!
A fully self-sufficient container
The Dropper container operates completely self-sufficiently by using renewable energy. The system also works in places without a power connection. So, in the future, collection points can be set up everywhere and anywhere!
More than just collection
The project at the Marineterrein is not just a collection point for deposit products. You can also dispose of the following types of waste:
- E-waste
- Plastic packaging
- Deposit bottles
Why are we doing this Living Lab?
With this experiment, Droppie wants to:
- Improve recycled materials through more efficient collection;
- gather insights into the recycling behavior of consumer;
- optimize logistical processes.
With the knowledge gained at the Marineterrein, the system can be further expanded to other locations in the city.
Join us?
